My Support On Hemiplegia:

Definition: Hemiplegia is a condition that causes half of the body to be paralyzed. It is caused by damage of one part of the brain. When the damage affects the parts of the brain responsible for motor movements.  The half of the body affected depends on which half of the brain has been damaged.

Types Of Hemiplegia: 2 types of Hemiplegia are there.

1) Congenital Hemiplegia: It is present from birth or happens shortly after.

2) Acquired Hemiplegia: This results in brain damage that occurs later in life, either due to illness or injury. The way the brain is set up, damage in left hemisphere usually results in right Hemiplegia and damage of right hemisphere results in left Hemiplegia.

Causes Of Hemiplegia: Acquired Hemiplegia is easier to identify because it occurs later in life, as a result of illness or injury. With Congenital Hemiplegia its harder to pinpoint a cause because it happens either before or after birth. often without warning or obvious immediate signs. It is believed that chances of  Hemiplegia increase in premature babies and in cases of multiple births. Damage can occur during pregnancy or delivery.

Symptoms Of Hemiplegia:
1) Muscle stiffness and weakness on one half of the body.
2) Keeping one hand fisted.
3) Difficulty in balancing and walking.
4) Lack of fine motor skills.
5) Developmental delays.
